Traditional Hammond organs are appreciated not only for their multi-contact keyboards and expressive playability but also for the charm of their electrical peculiarities. In this instrument, even these lovable imperfections are meticulously reproduced with the new sound engine „Virtual Electro Mechanical“ (VEM). The newly developed 6-contact keyboard (6L) has six contact points and offers an even more authentic playing feel, especially with a light touch. Of course, a complete set of drawbars is also available, so you can fully enjoy organ playing on stage or at home.

HIGHLIGHTS

Equipped with the new VEM sound engine, which reproduces tonewheels both electrically and mechanically true to the original.

Vintage organ tube amplifiers and other components have been modeled to achieve a warm, powerful sound.

The newly developed 6L keyboard with six contacts offers a playing feel very close to that of a vintage organ.

The standard equipment includes the single-manual XK-7 and the dual-manual XK-7D.

The Leslie simulator has been improved for even more realism and models the airflow in detail.

Extensive custom functions allow precise reproduction of the sound characteristics of vintage organs in any condition.

CAREFULLY REFINED SOUND

Traditional Hammond organs produced subtle sound variations and noises when several keys were played simultaneously, caused by current flow and voltage changes within the instrument.

These characteristic sounds, which could be seen as flaws, are instead considered part of the organ's charm.

By modeling these analog circuits and their real-time behavior, even chord playing is faithfully reproduced. Physical phenomena such as volume fluctuations caused by the eccentricity of the tonewheels are also modeled, achieving an extraordinary level of realism.

WARM SOUND

Vintage Hammond organs used an adaptation transformer to connect the tonewheels and preamplifier along with the tube preamplifier „AO-28“. This not only regulated the volume but also produced saturation and compression effects in the sound. In the XK-7 and XK-7D models, these components are faithfully reproduced using modeling technology to achieve the same warm and powerful sound characteristics as their vintage predecessors.

COMPREHENSIVE SOUND SPECTRUM

In addition to the authentic drawbar sounds, the instrument contains the sounds of „classic“ transistor combo organs from Italy, Great Britain, and Japan, making it suitable for a wide variety of musical styles.

PIPE ORGAN SOUNDS

The XK-7 and XK-7D are equipped with an extensive selection of pipe organ sounds covering not only classical but also theater styles. With 40 different pipe stops, you can create and save your own sets.

6-CONTACT KEYBOARD

The newly introduced 6L keyboard of the XK-7 and XK-7D has six contacts per key and offers the nuanced multi-contact playing feel of classic organs.

This allows expressive techniques such as ghost notes in paradiddle style and glissandi in the style of Erroll Garner, played with a wrist turn, achieving a response like vintage Hammond organs. Furthermore, the length of the keys corresponds to that of their vintage predecessors, so the distance from the pivot point to the striking point is the same, conveying the same playing feel as these predecessors.

3-CONTACT PEDALS

Organ playing only really comes alive when the instrument is played as a complete set including the pedal keyboard. The XPK-250W mk3 has 3 contacts and is connected to the XK-7 and XK-7D via a special H-BUS cable...

This allows the pedal keyboard to faithfully reproduce the behavior of vintage organs while offering responsive playability. Instrument and pedals together enable playing at the highest level.

SINGLE OR DUAL MODE

Since the XK-3C model, models with a single keyboard could be expanded to a two-keyboard configuration by connecting an optional lower keyboard. This time, however, we have included both the single-keyboard model XK-7 and the dual-keyboard model XK-7D in the standard range. The functionality of both models remains unchanged, and some of the functions located on the lower keyboard field of the XK-7D can be accessed via other switches on the XK-7. You can simply choose the model that suits your preferred playing style and start playing immediately.

LESLIE EFFECT

The Leslie speaker creates an immersive sound space with its characteristic rotation effect. The XK-7 and XK-7D are equipped with an 11-pin Leslie connector, through which a Leslie speaker can be connected directly. If no Leslie speaker is available, the integrated Leslie effect takes over this function. The XK-7 and XK-7D feature an advanced Leslie simulator that faithfully reproduces the sound reflections inside the housing and delivers an even more realistic Leslie sound. You can select the microphone type and adjust the virtual horizontal microphone position, allowing you to tailor the sound exactly to your preferences from gentle jazz tones to powerful rock timbres.

INTEGRATED EFFECTS

Two different effect sets are available. The first set includes tremolo, wah-wah, ring modulator, and compressor, which can be applied to both the UPPER and LOWER parts or to each part individually. The second set includes auto-pan, phaser, flanger, and chorus. Additionally, delay and reverb are available as independent effects, with the placement of the reverb selectable either before or after the Leslie effect.

VIBRATO/CHORUS

The vintage vibrato and chorus of the Hammond organ not only modulate the pitch but also vary the sound and blend with the dry signal, expanding the drawbar sound with a rich variety of tones. Historical vibrato units are faithfully reproduced, covering everything from simple, rustic vibrato to lush, full-bodied chorus.

PERCUSSION

Percussion gives the drawbar sound a distinctive accent. In the XK-7 and XK-7D models, the envelope curve and trigger points have been redesigned to more accurately reproduce the behavior of vintage organs.

COLORED DISPLAY

The color display improves visibility, allowing you to quickly check settings and perform intuitive operations and edits effortlessly. The top is equipped with assignable knobs for the integrated sound engine and external devices as well as a master equalizer for location-specific adjustments. With the knobs, you can immediately adapt to any performance environment.

DRAWBAR SETS

Originally designed for tone switching, the preset buttons on vintage organs took advantage of having two sets of drawbars for the upper and lower manuals. This allowed players to prepare registrations for the next phrase during playing and switch immediately at the right moment – a technique that became standard when playing vintage organs. The XK-7 and XK-7D fully support this playing style. Naturally, the percussion switch has a standard function to mute the 1'-bar sound, preserving the familiar operation for those accustomed to vintage organs.

PRESET vs. PATCHES

For organists who saved registrations on preset buttons in the order of their performance, changing the song order used to be very tedious. The XK-7 and XK-7D separate the preset buttons from the internal patches and feature a „favorite“ function that allows you to assign any patch number to each preset button. This way, you can change the mapping between the desired sounds and the song order at any time.

FOOT CONTROLLER FUNCTIONS

The expression pedal supports a variety of models thanks to internal polarity settings and a calibration function. The footswitch functions include everything from the well-known Leslie fast control to triggering pedal parts that can replace the „kick“ of a jazz organ, a smooth decay with the sustain function, and ProChord for fast chord runs that fully support live performances.

ADJUSTMENT

The VEM sound engine can reproduce the exact sound character of vintage organs in any condition, including variations due to individual differences or production periods.

TONEWHEELS

The pitch deviations (wow & flutter) caused by the play (play range) of the tonewheels can be individually adjusted for each oscillator.

The amplitude fluctuations caused by the eccentricity of the tonewheels can be individually adjusted for each oscillator.

The volume of each note (matrix level) can be set for each keyboard and each drawbar.

The volume of each wheel contained in the leakage sound can be set for each keyboard and each drawbar.

By including foldback parameters in the custom tonewheel parameters, models without foldback, such as the 44-key model L-112, can also be supported.

Independent overall levels for the UPPER/LOWER/PEDAL parts have been added to the custom tonewheel parameters, allowing you to easily adjust the balance according to your preferences.

The impedance reduction can be set per drawbar for each keyboard.

CONTACTS

You can set which leaf contact triggers the sound of each key and adjust the delay time, allowing you to fine-tune the playing feel in multi-contact playing.

PEDALS

The internal registration of the pedal part (sub-drawbar) can be configured. In vintage organs, the synthesis ratio of these sub-drawbars varies depending on the production period, but you can adjust it to your preferred sound and save the setting.

CONNECTIONS

Connection to the 25-key pedalboard XPK-250W mk3 is possible with a single H-BUS cable. Many of the accessories you may already have for an XK-3c or an XK-5 can also be used.

The XK-7 and XK-7D are equipped with LINE OUT L&R, a headphone jack, a ROTARY OUT jack for the output of the rotary channel, and a BASS OUT jack for extracting and outputting the low-frequency range of either the pedal part or the rotary channel, allowing flexible connection to a variety of amplifiers and speakers.

USB A/B compatible: You can save setups, patches, and custom tonewheels on a USB memory stick and also connect directly to a PC via a single USB cable for MIDI. It also works in applications like DTM and offers new possibilities beyond what vintage organs provide.

Leslie 11-pin socket: You can connect a Leslie speaker with a special 11-pin Leslie speaker cable (sold separately). When using a single-channel Leslie speaker, the drawbar organ sound is sent through the Leslie, while the sound bypassing the Leslie effect or the pipe organ tones are output through the line-out jacks.

Special Leslie switch socket: Simply connect an optional Leslie switch (e.g., the CU-1) and use it immediately – without complicated setup.
