The U5 high-voltage DI preamplifier combines a unique passive tone selector with a preamplifier and filter with variable gain. The high input impedance accepts a variety of signal levels and instruments, from acoustic guitars to active bass guitars with high output and keyboards. DESIGNED FOR DEEP & CONTROLLED BASS
Avalon U5 DI preamplifiers have been used worldwide since 1995. They have found their way into the rigs of the world’s leading musicians and recording sessions and can be heard on thousands of the best-selling (and sounding) albums and live performances.
MINIMAL SIGNAL PATH DESIGN
The U5 features a Class-A preamplifier with variable gain to amplify weak recording signals and a high-level speaker input to capture the live sound of the instrument amplifier. Additionally, six passive tone control curves are included to enhance a variety of acoustic and electric instruments. A high-pass filter eliminates unwanted acoustic pickup and high-frequency noise, while a headphone monitor amplifier is included for personal monitoring. Two DC-coupled Class A output amplifiers drive both the low-level microphone preamplifier inputs and the high-level inputs and +4 dB for direct recording to tape or processing. The active-to-thru switch either selects the instrument input directly or sends the amplified and equalized signal via the front jack to the amplifier. A ground isolation switch eliminates possible ground loop or AC hum problems with complete safety.
