Description

The A-108 module is a completely new voltage-controlled low-pass/band-pass filter based on the well-known transistor cascade circuit (Moog cascade). Internally, it features an 8-stage low-pass filter with slopes of 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, and 48 dB per octave. Of the 8 internally available stages, only the outputs with 6, 12, 24, and 48 dB are routed to outputs. These seem most sensible to us based on initial listening results, as the differences are clearly audible here. For example, the difference between 24 dB and 32 dB or between 42 and 48 dB is hardly audible. However, if one of the other stages should be available as an output, this can be changed internally. Note: There are 4 output stages available, which are factory-set to the filter stages with 6, 12, 24, and 48 dB. By changing the internal wiring (jumper), any of the 8 stages can be assigned to an output if needed, but always only 4 at the same time. In principle, a multi-position switch could also be used. From our point of view, the factory setting (6/12/24/48 dB) represents the best combination (for example, simultaneous outputs with 36, 42, and 48 dB slopes seem musically less meaningful). The resonance (emphasis) of the A-108 can be adjusted up to self-oscillation. The A-108 then operates as a sine oscillator. An external input (feedback) is available for the resonance, which is internally connected to the 48 dB output if no cable is plugged into the feedback jack. Thus, any other modules can be inserted into the feedback path (e.g., VCA for voltage-controlled resonance or phaser/frequency shifter for phase/frequency shifter effects). The frequency is manually adjustable (frequency control) and controllable via 3 control voltages (CV1, CV2, CV3), with a separate attenuator available for CV2 and CV3 each. The audio input is sensitive enough that overloads are possible even at normal A-100 levels (e.g., VCO output). With strong overload and simultaneous self-oscillation (sine oscillator), the self-oscillation breaks off. This can possibly be used as an additional stylistic device. In conjunction with the voltage-controlled mixer A-135 and the morphing controller A-144, a filter with voltage-controlled slope 6...48 dB can be realized.
