The switchable microphone U 87 Ai is the technically improved successor model of the U 87 i, probably the best-known and most widely used microphone of the fet 80 series. The changes concern the increased output voltage and the reduced equivalent noise level. Both measures contribute to a remarkable improvement in recording quality.
The microphone is used in studios as the main microphone for orchestra recordings, and it is used as a support microphone for individual instruments. In the transmission of big bands and in the recording of instrumental and vocal soloists, but also in such demanding tasks as the production of a radio play, the U 87 Ai is used with its versatile possibilities.
